Yesterday was Canada’s 149th Birthday – July 1, 2016. Every city and town across the nation celebrated with parties, bands, food, drink and of course fireworks. I hopped on my bike and hit the pathways of Calgary to see the show downtown. It was a phenomenal plan!! Parked on the west side of town and cruised all the way to St Patricks Island and back over the course of 4 hours.
There were tons of people down there celebrating, enjoying the weather, watching some of the shows and just walking around. After doing a little people watching and exploring I found a spot along Memorial Drive looking west. The band was right across the river and was rocking a tribute to one of the most cherished icons in the Canadian music scene – Mr. Gord Downey and The Tragically Hip!!! It ended up being a really good spot so I camped out, took some sample shots and really enjoyed the tunes!
The fireworks started right on time and were really cool from our vantage point.
