This was awesome – so awesome I pumped my fist the whole drive home – haha! I went out Saturday night east of Calgary to a place called Horseshoe Canyon. It’s 5 minutes from Drumheller, Ab. I got to the canyon a bit early and had the opportunity to hike around, get a couple locations scouted and wait for the wind to die down. I talked to a really nice family who had come for a picnic while I got my gear all together. They had come out to see the northern lights as well – it was 83% on the website so we were pretty confident we would see something – but this was beyond our wildest hopes! It was almost dark by the time I hiked into the canyon with 2 tripods, 2 cameras in a backpack and some water – all by myself, leaving the family up above. I went to the two places I’d picked out earlier and set up – they were close to each other but offered different vantages. It was an amazing night – the wind calmed, the crickets were chirping and the sky was pulsating. This was the best show I’ve ever seen. The purples really amazed me!! I’ll be back to this canyon again for sure – woohoo!
